A fairy themed birthday party can be a magical experience for girls. When my daughter requested fairies for her 6th birthday, I was instantly excited!
I love this theme because there are many different avenues you can go. You can pull in Disney fairies, butterflies, florals, mushrooms, princesses, unicorns, sprinkles, sparkles… the list goes on!
Below you will see how we decorated for my daughter’s 6th fairy birthday party!

Fairy Birthday Party
Planning a child’s birthday party is a fun and exciting experience. A great place to begin planning the party is to consider the age and interests of the birthday girl. After deciding on a theme, ask your child for their input and ideas. I’m sure they will be happy to share many different ideas with you! Pinterest is also a great source of inspiration (check out my Pinterest board for specific fairy birthday party ideas!). Once you have your inspiration, you can begin planning decorations, food and activities based on your budget.
Setting A Party Budget
I always like to think about my budget ahead of planning a birthday party. This year, we decided our daughter’s fairy birthday party was going to be simple and sweet because she had other birthday activities planned.
Once I had a budget in mind, I went through what I already had. I keep a box of party supplies in our basement and I always look through before purchasing anything specific for a party. Oftentimes, I will be inspired by the items I find and will save money by using items I have already purchased.
For the fairy birthday party, I found faux florals (that I have used for YEARS and they always come in handy. These faux florals are one of my best purchases that I use again and again for birthdays!), balloons, a white drop sheet, a pink tablecloth and a birthday sign. These items were the base decorations for everything else.
To involve my daughter, I had her design her own party invitation. She simply told me what she would like on her invitation and we put it together in Canva. We used our own printer to print the invitations. It was a fun budget-friendly option!
Choosing Fairy Party Decorations
When selecting decorations, look for items that match the theme and will be age appropriate. My daughter loves anything and everything colourful, sparkly and floral so I knew that was a good jumping off point.
I decided to make one simple purchase: a butterfly tablecloth. I tend to transform our dining room table into focal point of the party where most of the decorations (and all of the food!) hang out. A butterfly tablecloth is a great way to play off of a fairy theme. I couldn’t believe that one simple tablecloth was all that I needed this year! This is why using what you already have is so rewarding. It is amazing what you can do with items you have around your home!
For the fairy-themed tablescape, I started by laying out a beautiful sparkly pink tablecloth with the colourful butterfly tablecloth on top. The variation of shades of pink, purple, and blue created a magical fairy feel. I added faux florals and greenery around the table. My daughter and I also used a pepper plant to create a “fairy house”. We added little sparkly fairies to the fairy house. This was a fun DIY project that I did together.
For the backdrop, I hung a basic white sheet and faux florals with a sparkly heart garland. This was a beautiful and simple backdrop against the vibrant tablescape.
Planning Party Food
Planning food for a party can be fun! Look for menu items that follow the theme of the party and will be enjoyable for many different tastes. I love to try to have a good mix of healthy and unhealthy food. Although, who doesn’t love treats at a birthday party!?
For a fairy birthday party, consider serving “fairy fajitas”! Making your own fajitas is a great idea for a party because it allows you to customize the ingredients to suit all of your guests’ dietary needs and preferences. It also gives your guests the chance to get creative and make their own tasty combinations. Plus, it’s a fun and interactive way to enjoy a meal together with friends and family without being stuck cooking in the kitchen. With all the delicious options, you can’t go wrong! I love “make your own fajitas” because you can prepare all of the food ahead – which leaves more time to enjoy celebrating the birthday girl!
For dessert, you could incorporate any combination of treats inspired by the fairy theme, such as cupcakes with wings, sparkly cookies and/or candy. Or you could make a cake with fairy cake toppers and sparkly candles. The options are endless!
Fairy Party Activities
This year, my daughter wanted to do a pinata as a party game. She loved it! Here are some other ideas you could consider for a fairy birthday party:
- Create fun activities such as a scavenger hunt, a story time session with a few of your favorite fairy tales, or a craft station where the kids can make their own fairy wands.
- Make your own fairy dust popcorn and watch Tinkerbell.
- Organize a glittery science experiment.
- Put together a costume box full of items like wings, tiaras, and tutus so the kids can dress up as fairies.
The options are endless when it comes to fun fairy-themed activities for birthday parties.
